Score is a Contrast Den disclosure score out of 10, computed from published specifications. It is not a test result. Every weight is published. Buy links are affiliate links - how we are paid.

The wooden interior of a small home sauna, lit by plain daylight

Where to start

Four product categories and three ways of deciding between them. Every roundup shows the score broken into its six components and the arithmetic behind the running cost.

A heated blanket laid out across a bed in a plain domestic bedroom

Sauna blankets

The best sauna blankets, ranked on what their makers will actually tell you

Eight blankets, one spec checklist, and a category that scores badly for a reason worth knowing about before you spend four hundred dollars.

A small home sauna set up in the corner of an ordinary room

Portable saunas

The best portable saunas, ranked by what they draw and how much floor they take

Unlike sauna blankets, this category publishes its wattage - which means every unit here can be costed, and the differences are larger than you would guess.

An inflatable cold plunge tub filled with cold water outdoors

Cold plunges

The best cold plunge tubs, and the capacity figures you should not trust

Insulation, ports and floor space decide this category. So does whether the number in the title matches the number in the spec table, which more than once it does not.

A compact refrigeration unit with hose fittings on a hard floor

Chillers

The best cold plunge chillers, with what each one actually costs to run

This is the category where the arithmetic bites. A chiller runs for hours, not minutes, and the published draw ranges from 190 W to 1,200 W.

EMF

EMF in home saunas: who publishes a number, and who just says the words

This page scores disclosure, not safety. We do not own a gaussmeter and we make no health claim. What we can do is tell you which manufacturers will put a figure on it.

A compact apartment living room with limited free floor space

Small spaces

Sauna and cold plunge gear that actually fits a small apartment

Three numbers decide this: how much floor it claims while it is up, how big the bundle is when it is down, and whether your circuit can carry it.

Guides

Guides: how hot, how cold, how long, and what it costs

The questions that come before a purchase, answered with numbers rather than enthusiasm.

We have not used any of this gear, and we are not going to say we have

Every competitor on this search that has real authority also has a test lab and credentialed reviewers. We have neither. Six of the eight biggest sauna and plunge roundups pair the word “best” with a claim to have tested the products hands-on, and that is the one thing on this page we will not copy, because it would not be true.

Here is what we did instead. We read every product listing line by line on 2026-09-07 - the title, every feature bullet, the full specification table - and recorded what each seller publishes and what they leave blank. We computed the running cost of every product that publishes a wattage, from the current US residential electricity rate, and showed the arithmetic. Where a figure is not published, the cell says Not published, which is a finding rather than a gap in our notes.

That approach found things a test lab would not have looked for: 14 powered products whose sellers never state how much power they draw, two cold plunge tubs that publish two different capacities on the same page, a chiller listed at the same wattage as its own half-size sibling, and a category-wide EMF vocabulary in which almost nobody puts a number behind the word.

The whole method is published, with every weight and both formulas, so you can recompute any score on this site from the same listing we read. If we get something wrong, tell us and the correction gets dated on the page.

Zero is the good number in every row above. Prices on this site render only from the live retailer data layer, which currently holds 44 products; where it has no fresh price, the button reads “Check price on Amazon” rather than showing a number that has gone stale.
